Hello, safety professionals --

Another safety news alert for you today. Just this afternoon, DOSH published their enforcement guidance document that explains what their approach is in light of the Governor’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy orders. The enforcement document can be accessed here.

As an aside, I am hearing some reports from the field that there have been individuals impersonating OSHA or DOSH inspectors and coming to sites and telling them to shut down. If this occurs, ask for credentials (they should be shown upon access to the site) and ask them to explain the purpose of their visit. If you have any issues, please call Mandi Kime in the AGC Safety department.

The basic summary I have to offer regarding the enforcement directive is that it mostly mirrors our safety protocols and site-specific template, as well as the overarching exposure-prevention plan from AGC of America. A couple of items worth mentioning and your review are:
  • Allowances for use of a face shield (reusable, durable and disinfectable) is a suggested alternative to masks for encroachment inside the six feet. This does NOT change the guidance from OSHA or DOSH allowing the use of alternative respirators such as the KN95, nor does it mandate that these respirators be treated as mandatory use. Rather, you can still follow voluntary-use protocols.
  • DOSH will not be making determinations of what is "essential."
  • Cleaning and disinfecting shall be done with products on the listed EPA guide here.
  • More clarity on alternative means for handwashing facilities are found in section V, subsection C.

For any questions about this document or implementation, please join us for the Safety Town Hall webinar on Wednesday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m. (register here).

Thank you for all you do! I am so proud to work for you!

In health,
Mandi
