EVENTS
Culture of CARE Awareness Week starts Monday!
AGC is encouraging jobsites across the state to celebrate Culture of CARE next Monday-Friday. This handy Culture of CARE Awareness Week toolkit contains all the posters, Toolbox Talks and hardhat stickers you need to make diversity and inclusion front and center throughout the week.

While we are constructing with COVID-19 health and safety protocols, consider handing out hardhat stickers at your pre-screening stations, holding small group Toolbox Talks, texting Culture of CARE messages and resources, or holding a virtual Culture of CARE meeting with your crews. Social media is another great way to celebrate and show the community your dedication to diversity and inclusion -- use #AGCCultureofCARE to tag your Awareness Week posts!

NAWIC Social - Thursday, July 23
NAWIC Puget Sound is holding an in-person social on Thursday, July 23 at McMenamin's Anderson School in Bothell. Join local women construction professionals for this event by registering here.

Seattle District monthly meetings return
Starting in September, AGC's Seattle District will resume a monthly program with a presentation on Seattle building-code changes. While we will need to gather virtually, we are looking forward to finding unique ways to continue providing meeting and networking opportunities to our members. Stay tuned for registration details in our next newsletter.

ADVOCACY
Tell Congress, Pres. Trump to advance the $1.5-trillion
infrastructure bill

The Moving Forward Act (H.R. 2) provides resources to build roads and bridges, public transit, airports, schools, hospitals, affordable housing, water infrastructure, locks, dams, levees and more. With 1,187,000 construction workers unemployed, our elected leaders must act now to protect existing and create new construction jobs.

Due to the unprecedented impact of the pandemic, state and local governments face significant budget shortfalls that are putting immense pressure on public agencies to delay or cancel construction projects. This comes on top of many private owners, developers, and investors—facing vast uncertainty—drastically cutting back on future construction projects.
Bipartisan improvements are needed to address some of the underlying policies in H.R. 2.

City of Seattle considers
new payroll, income taxes

Despite the fact that Seattle is facing its worst economic conditions in nearly 100 years, the City Council is considering a new payroll and capital-gains tax that would represent one of the single largest tax increases in Seattle’s history and generate more annually than any other General Fund revenue source currently collected by the City of Seattle. Companies with payrolls of $7 million and above, and $1 billion and above, would be affected. The minimum per-employee cost to a business subject to the tax would be $2,000 annually.

AGC has joined with area businesses and associations to sign a letter to the City Council opposing the tax. At this point, it seems there are enough council votes to pass some version of the tax. However, we are hoping to be able to limit the negative impact that it could have on our economy. According to SCC Insight, the Council hopes to vote on this package by July 8th.
