ADVOCACY
ELECTION 2019  No on I-976; candidate endorsements
AGC is opposing Initiative 976, which would eliminate billions in transportation spending. Known as the $30 Car Tabs initiative, I-976 would cut $20 billion in funding from Sound Transit. Perhaps less well-known is the fact that I-976 would also cut almost $4 billion in WSDOT funding over ten years, and it would cut $60 million annually from Transportation Benefit Districts which scores of cities around the state use to fund local road maintenance.
Elsewhere, AGC's has endorsed a number of candidates in all four chapter districts. Get the complete run-down on AGC's Endorsements page. A smart vote is an informed vote!
It's high time for change on the Seattle council
Next Tuesday, November 5, voters have a chance to stem Seattle's rising tide of urban decay and anti-business sentiment. Fourteen of AGC's past presidents and notable members have signed a fundraising letter that's gone out to Seattle District members, encouraging donations for CASE -- Civic Alliance for a Competitive Economy -- to bring about common-sense and practical solutions to critical issues facing our city. They're not alone, either: Amazon recently bolstered CASE's warchest, donating over $1M to CASE. There are seven city-council seats up for election, and fortunately -- very fortunately -- all seven CASE- and AGC's BUILD PAC-endorsed candidates are on the November ballot. As the letter stated, "each of these leaders are more common-sensical and practical than their status-quo opponents. Simply put, they offer the possibility for better leadership in our city." NATIONAL HONORS
Kime, Lehrman-Schmid named
CBO Magazine's Outstanding Women
in
Construction finalists
Construction Business Owner (CBO) magazine is honoring some of the construction industry’s most hardworking construction professionals with a special section dedicated to the Outstanding Women in Construction (OWIC). We're quite happy to announce that our very own safety director Mandi Kime and AGC-member firm Hensel Phelps' superintendent Kabri Lehrman-Schmid have been named as 2019 finalists. A tip o' the hardhat to both ladies! According to CBO Magazine, the list of contenders was long and their stories were remarkable, so the finalists are certainly deserving of the honor.
CBO's November issue will feature one-on-one interviews with both Mandi and Kabri, as well as feedback from industry leaders who support the advancement of women in construction. Congratulations once again to these outstanding women of our industry! Read more...
